Job Overview:
The Warehouse Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the warehouse, ensuring the efficient receipt, storage, dispatch, and management of goods. This role includes enforcing health and safety standards, managing staff, optimising warehouse processes, and ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations. The Team Leader will also monitor performance metrics and promote continuous improvement within the warehouse.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receiving and Dispatch:
    • Oversee the accurate receiving of goods, ensuring that products are inspected, labelled, and stored properly.
    • Manage outbound deliveries to ensure orders are picked, packed, and shipped accurately and on time.
    • Track customer orders and ensure timely fulfilment.
    • Maintain accountability for all goods entering and leaving the warehouse.
  • Health & Safety:
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, hygiene standards, and security procedures.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and training to minimise workplace accidents.
    • Maintain a clean and organised warehouse to promote safety and efficiency.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Implement and manage inventory control systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
    • Perform regular stock audits and manage stock levels to avoid shortages or overstocking.
    • Reconcile stock records with the data storage system and maintain inventory accuracy.
    • Continuously evaluate and improve stock control processes.

 

 

  • Staff Management:
    • Manage, coach, and motivate warehouse staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Assign tasks, create work schedules, and monitor staff performance.
    • Conduct performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback.
  • Operational Efficiency:
    • Set up warehouse layouts to ensure optimal space utilisation and workflow efficiency.
    • Initiate, coordinate, and enforce operational policies and procedures to ensure smooth daily operations.
    • Identify areas for process improvement and implement solutions to increase productivity, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Liaise with suppliers, vendors, transport companies, and other departments (e.g., procurement, sales) to ensure smooth operations.
    • Communicate effectively with other teams to align warehouse activities with broader company goals.
    • Address and resolve any operational issues or discrepancies that arise.
  • Data and Reporting:
    • Produce regular reports and statistics on key warehouse performance metrics (e.g., inventory accuracy, order fulfilment rates, shipping times).
    • Utilise warehouse management systems (WMS) and ERP software to track performance, optimise operations, and generate insights for continuous improvement.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in warehouse management or team leadership in a logistics or distribution environment.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management and stock control systems.
  • Proficiency in warehouse management software (WMS) and ERP systems.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to analyse data and performance metrics to drive operational improvements.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills for interacting with staff, suppliers, and other departments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to adapt to changing workloads and priorities.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to warehouse operations.
  • A “can-do” attitude with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

Additional Skills (Desirable):

  • Certification in warehouse management or logistics is a plus.
  • Forklift certification or experience with heavy machinery.
  • Experience in budgeting and financial management of warehouse operations.
